DELTABEAM FIRETESTS SUCCESSFUL BEYOND EXPECTATIONS

RESULTS TO BOOST DELTABEAM SALES IN THE COMING YEARS

Peikko Group implemented in November 2009 an extensive four-phase fire-test series for the Deltabeam-hollow-core structure at the fire laboratory of SP Technical Research Institute in Borås, Sweden. The maximum loaded Deltabeam structure was able to perform well in 60, 120 and even180 minute standard fire situation without any additional fire protection materials. The building codes in Europe typically define the required time to be between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on the type of the building. This time reflects the time of fire during which people can safely depart from the building without a collapse of the structure.

The recent test results are a very good continuation for the previous fire tests done in the 1990s at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and at the University of Braunschweig, Germany. They prove the uniqueness of Deltabeam particularly when used together with hollow-core floor slabs. The fact that no other fire protection material was used (e.g. gypsum or paint) with Deltabeams gives the product distinct cost-benefit compared to any other structural solutions.
