Slim floors without the risk of punching failure

Common solutions to prevent punching failure in slim floors – such as arrangement of prop head reinforcements or increased slab thickness, column dimensions, concrete quality, or grade of reinforcement – are not economical and usually do not provide the required collapse-load increase. In addition, they negatively impact usable storey heights and hamper unlimited use of the construction.

How does the Peikko solution work?

With its punching and shear reinforcement systems, Peikko enables very simple installation of the floor slab reinforcement without spacers: the PSB punching reinforcement components are placed on top of the main reinforcement or with spacers under the main reinforcement in the area around the column. They consist of double-headed studs connected to a spacer bar. The basic idea is to strengthen the slab against punching failure by using the Peikko PSB Punching Reinforcement as a vertical tensile force component, which enables the construction of a spatial truss in the connection area of the column. Thanks to the nearly perfect form fit of the stud heads with the surrounding concrete, shear cracks are minimized and punching load can be increased remarkably. To resist high punching loads, Peikko CUBO column caps are predestinated. Increasing the critical circumference reduces the shear stresses.
