Peikko Group Global (English)

Health and safety

Safety is an important part of our daily operations at all Peikko units.

Peikko is committed to continually improve the health and safety of its employees and to prevent its visitors and contractors from having accidents on Peikko premises. Safety matters are also in focus when travelling, loading our goods, arranging customer seminars and events, as well as during operations at construction sites. We aim to excel in our occupational health and safety performance and achieve the accident‑free working environment.

Peikko is ISO 45001:2018 Multisite certified company. All our production units in Europe, China, Russia, and UAE are certified by DNV‑GL. Our safety activities, accident investigations and KPI’s are discussed monthly in global safety meetings and reviewed at least twice a year by Group Management. Safety manual defines our ambitious minimum requirements and Peikko way for safety improvements, regardless of country or culture.

Our aim is that our working environment and our attitude for safety is so good that every Peikko employee, subcontractor or visitor in our premises can return home health and safely, every day. We undertake daily initiatives for safety improvement, safety walks and safety talks.

Hazard risk assessments as well as process risk assessments are part of our safety routines. Peikko arranges regularly internal safety campaigns. In 2019, the topic of our safety campaign was hand safety and in 2020 – how to lift safely.

Our commitment in safety is outlined in Peikko Group's Health and Safety Policy

Peikko also focuses on product safety.

Our products are designed for a faster, safer, and more reliable construction process. For our customers, test results, certificates, as well as the European and local approvals are a clear evidence of the safety of Peikko products. The constancy of performance of our products is verified through a continuous quality control system applied to all of our manufacturing plants. This guarantees that specific products have the same properties, independent of the time and place where they were produced.

With the help of our products, solutions and services, our customers not only enhance safety but also improve the efficiency and productivity of their operations. Even if Peikko operates globally, we find it very important to make sure that the products fulfill local regulations and are suitable for local practices. This way, our products are safe to use during their entire life cycle.

One of Peikko’s main safety KPI’s is the Lost Time Injury Frequency LTIF, which refers to the number of lost‑time injuries per million working hours.

The LTIF for 2019 was 16.9 (24.4 in 2018), an improvement of 30% compared to the previous year.

Safety Action Frequency is a leading indicator that measures how active employees are in carrying out proactive safety actions. In Peikko, we believe that there is a clear correlation between the activity level of our safety actions and the number of accidents and injuries. By being active and increasing the number of preventive safety activities we can reduce the number of work‑related accidents.

The SAF for 2019 was 1199 (moving average all units), and for 2018 it was 630.

A smoke‑free workplace is in everyone’s best interest.

Peikko always acts as a responsible and respectful employer. Looking after the employees’ overall health and well‑being plays a crucial role in Peikko’s operations. Therefore, we also created a smoke‑free workplace. It reduces potential harm from passive smoking, provides an environment that encourages persons to be smoke‑free, and promotes a culture of wellness.
