A building should be designed for adaptability/flexibility so that the premises are versatile and can be converted with minor construction technical changes.
During the planning phase, it is good to prepare for the fact that a building can be easily expanded and, if necessary, disassembled so that as many building components as possible can be reused. Peikko’s connections and composite structures enable the realization of flexible buildings and support the Design for Disassembly (DfD) concept. This has been demonstrated in pilot projects in 2022 and 2024-2025, where the structures were built, disassembled, rebuilt, and disassembled.
Now, our Design Concept Manual – “Account of Peikko’s Demountable Connections” has been updated. In a pilot project in the Netherlands in 2024-2025, hollow core slabs supported by DELTABEAM® Composite Beams were disassembled using spreaders. This is now included in the manual.
We aim to keep the manual up to date and update it based on experience gained.
