Peikko Group’s Canadian subsidiary Peikko Canada Inc. has received a substantial order for 1.9 kilometers (1.2 miles) of DELTABEAM Composite Beams and PCs Corbel Systems to a residential project named Glasshouse in Winnipeg, Canada. The deliveries will start in December 2014 and end in fall 2015. The building will be finished in 2016.
Glasshouse is a 21-storey residential building offering high-end condominiums in downtown Winnipeg. It comprises 54 000 m2 (574 000 ft2). The developers of the project is Longboat and Urban Capital. The construction is made by Bockstael and the structural design by Crosier Kilgour & Partners.
“We are excited that DELTABEAM was chosen for the Glasshouse project which will be the highest steel structure so far using DELTABEAM. In this project the advantages of DELTABEAM proved yet again very important. The structure leaves the hollow-core slabs unexposed, so the painted, flat bottom flange of DELTABEAM makes it possible to leave also the beam unexposed. The cantilevers of the building could be easily made by using the in-built formwork of the beam allowing fast and easy concrete casting. As DELTABEAM has integrated fire protection, the fact was appreciated that no additional fire proofing is required on site”, states Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
