Publishing Peikko’s Sustainability Report: Making sustainability visible

May, 13, 2026

"At Peikko, we have maintained our commitment to sustainability, no matter which way the political winds of the world might be blowing. It is our duty to decrease relative emissions, not only at Peikko, but also for our customers" - Peikko Group Corporation, CEO, Topi Paananen

Every construction project is a series of decisions: decisions about speed and safety, materials and cost, durability and future use. In today’s world, it also includes decisions about carbon, energy, and resource efficiency, often without adding time or complexity to already demanding projects.

Why Peikko published its first sustainability report

This is the context in which Peikko published its first sustainability report in 2025. The purpose was simple: to make our environmental, social, and governance material topics, targets, and progress visible in a clear and practical way. Not because reporting was mandatory for Peikko, but because transparency increasingly supports better collaboration and better building outcomes. Peikko followed the official VSME Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard, developed by EFRAG, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group, to prepare the report.

Sustainability at Peikko is closely connected to engineering, manufacturing, and the on-site performance of structures. When installation is simpler, work is safer. When materials are used efficiently, waste and emissions are reduced. When buildings are designed to adapt or to be reused, their value extends well beyond a single lifecycle. These are benefits that matter to both customers and the wider built environment.

Peikko’s contribution to lower-impact construction

The sustainability report brings together this work into one place and story. Construction faces increasing expectations for environmental performance while schedules, budgets, and safety requirements remain tight. The report is not intended to add another layer of complexity, but to clarify how Peikko contributes to more efficient, lower‑impact construction through concrete solutions.

One key part of this contribution is having a clear climate and energy direction. Peikko has set targets that guide the transition toward lower‑carbon energy sources, such as nuclear, wind, and solar, where available. In several operating countries, production already relies on renewable energy, directly supporting lower embodied carbon in the products delivered to projects.

Material use plays an equally important role. Improving efficiency reduces both environmental impact and resource use. Through the already long-running Cut the Scrap program, Peikko achieved a 13 percent reduction in steel scrap and a 98 percent recycling rate of waste. These improvements reduce emissions and support more efficient manufacturing.

Circular construction is another focus area where solutions must work in practice. Products such as DELTABEAM® Green and DELTABEAM® Green Reuse are designed to support disassembly, reuse, and flexible building lifecycles. Combined with hybrid structures that use steel, concrete, and timber, they enable designers to use materials where they perform best and avoid unnecessary carbon emissions.

Reliable data for better project decisions

Transparent data has become essential for today’s projects due to different requirements. Designers, developers, and contractors increasingly need reliable environmental information to support project requirements and comparisons. By providing third-party-verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) with clear energy and emissions data, Peikko supports informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Behind the products and data are the people and Peikko’s workforce: safety, competence, and responsible practices form the basis for sustainable operations. Systematic safety management, an international and diverse workforce, and responsible supply‑chain practices help ensure that solutions are developed and delivered with long‑term reliability in mind.

Making the future plan a reality

Publishing the sustainability report is part of our future plan, Expanding Horizons. It reflects a commitment to clarity and continuous improvement, and to working with customers and partners to deliver faster, safer, and more sustainable construction.

The challenges facing the built environment are universal and need to be tackled together. Addressing them requires practical solutions, transparency, and collaboration, one project at a time.
