Environmental Product Declaration, EPD

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document providing information about the environmental impact of a product during its entire life cycle. It is also known by the formal name Type III Environmental Declaration.

The environmental performance of products is based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCAs give an overview of the environmental impacts of products. Sustainability is easy to evaluate when you have all competent product information in the same format.

Peikko Group Environmental Product Declarations are:

EPD Connecting Parts
EPD DELTABEAM® (Peikko Slovakia and Peikko Finland)
EPD DELTABEAM® (Peikko Lithuania)
EPD Steel Structures

Peikko Group Environmental Product declarations for
DELTABEAM® Green are:

EPD DELTABEAM® Green, painted
EPD DELTABEAM® Green, galvanized

Standardized way of assessment

EPDs are created according to European standard EN 15804 “Sustainability of construction works. Environmental product declarations” and international standard ISO 14025 “Environmental labels and declarations.”

Peikko’s environmental declarations are primarily intended for use in business-to-business communication.

Life cycle assessment in these EPDs complies with standards EN 15804 “Sustainability of construction works. Environmental product declarations,” EN ISO 14040 “Environmental management. Life cycle assessment. Principles and framework,” and EN ISO 14044 “Environmental management. Life cycle assessment. Requirements and guidelines.”

Verification

The Peikko EPDs are third party verified as required from ISO 14025 Type III EPDs.

Publishing of EPDs

Peikko EPDs are published in Peikko website www.peikko.com and in Bionova Ltd’s cloud service One Click LCA www.oneclicklca.com,  where they can be used as components to evaluate their impact at whole building level, e.g. to demonstrate conformity with LEED v4's Building Life-cycle Impact Reduction credits or to complete Mat 01 LCA for BREEAM certification.

The Environmental Product Declarations are published under the RTS system and can be found here: http://epd.rts.fi/en
